Listening
Mind Love podcast with Melissa Monte
This podcast has replaced all others for me (until I need another true crime binge). Listen wherever you tune into podcasts. Make sure to share the love and subscribe or comment! Take a look at the comment I left for Mind Love…
The first time I listened to this podcast, I called my soul sister to share it. I told her “these are the conversations we have every time we talk, just in podcast form!” If you are experiencing a spiritual awakening, are on a journey of self-mastery, or are feeling stagnant in your life and looking for some inspiration, this will be your favorite podcast, I promise. Melissa is the perfect host. Her intros are so introspective and I am hooked in the first minute. If she had a dollar for every time a guest said “wow, that’s a really great question” she would be rich. You’re not just listening to someone blabber for an hour. Your listening to a beautiful back and forth conversation that dives deep into what motivates us. She takes a soulful look at intangible concepts and sheds so much wisdom. Melissa, when I start my own podcast, I wanna interview you, even before Oprah. (Sorry Oprah, I love you too). Your work inspires me.
Reading
Emergent Strategy by Adrienne Marie Brown
To celebrate Black History Month, we read this beautiful book. If you’re not already in awe of the resilience, intention and power of nature, then this book will illuminate all of that for you. Adrienne Marie Brown provides actionable tools to harness the lessons learned from nature so that you may apply them in your work for justice, as well as your work in pursuit of your higher self.
This is a particularly perfect pick for Spring because she illustrates complex topics through comparison to the actions of natural elements, like mushrooms. Here’s a snippet from Adrienne Marie Brown on cultivating trust as an organizing strategy with lessons from mycelium mushrooms:
“Mycelium mushrooms have been one of my greatest teachers of trust. The word mycelium means ‘more than one.’ The mycelium organism is a dynamic root system of mushrooms that utilizes trust as a mechanism to build and sustain a vast, reciprocal, underground network that connects the roots of trees and plants and skillfully shares nutrients and resources to support the health of the entire ecosystem with which it moves.”
Watching
Fantastic Fungi on Netflix
Mind BLOWN! I love a good nature doc as much as the next lass, but this one really changes the game. It goes so much deeper than how an ecosystem functions. Here you learn…
The interconnectedness of plants.
That fungi might be the most important organism on the planet.
People who study mushrooms are people you want to hang out with.
From the beautiful cinematography to the breathtaking landscapes and jovial experts, Fantastic Fungi is the most important film I have seen all year. A must watch for any adult or teen, you will leave with a newfound respect for these organisms and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all energetic beings.
Reveling
In Nature’s Spring Awakening!
In honor of the season and upcoming Earth Day, Abigail created a crystal grid to welcome in healing energy for Mother Earth. Watch her time lapse video below! She made this grid with the intention of sending healing energy to the planet and all that dwell within. The large crackle quartz symbolizes Mother Nature. The spiral selenite is our energetic connection to all of nature. Connected to the selenite are branches to symbolize earth, water, air, animals and plants. Channeling this healing energy under a beautiful sky, feeling the breeze supporting me at my back and my curious dog at the window. What a gift of time and space. Hope you enjoy!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

@HAIGHTSTSHROOMSHOP
If you can’t tell, we were feeling pretty mushy this month… as in MUSHROOMS! After our minds were blown watching Fantastic Fungi, we searched for local fellow shroomers and found Haight Street Shroom Shoppe in San Francisco.
A combo retail space and classroom, HSSS offers community education on the amazing benefits and healing powers of mushrooms.
Visit their website to read how James, the founder, fell down the rabbit hole and into the amazing world of mushrooms.
Savoring
MUD \ WTR
Continuing on the mushroom kick…
I have been so eager to try those Instagram adds that kept popping up in my feed for MUD \ WTR. A coffee alternative, this powder is added to hot water and can be mixed with a number of possible ingredients to concoct delicious and decadent bevies with healing power! Mix with your favorite milk, make it a smoothie or pudding, bake it in dessert, serve it hot or cold… you can find so many recipes on their sight and whip up your own!
MUD \ WTR is a blend of wildly healthy all natural fungi and spices. Mushrooms include Lions Mane, Reishi, Chaga and mycelium (which you will learn all about in Fantastic Fungi). For your health and your flavor palette they added turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cacao and a dash of Himalayan salt.
With 1/7 the amount of caffeine as coffee, you get a smooth and lasting energy boost without the jitters.
It hasn’t taken the place of coffee for me but I enjoy it everyday as a mid-afternoon self-care sesh.
Shopping
Perch in San Francisco, CA
This is my local gift shop in Glen Park! I’ve lived here for about a decade and have been fortunate enough to find countless treasures for my loved ones (and myself!) at this perfect little shop. Not only does it carry beautifully-crafted and thoughtfully-curated items, the owner Zoel is a truly wonderful human. He was one of the first stockists of my stationery brand, Foreignspell and has offered me so much warmth, support and genuinely helpful advice throughout the years. I feel so grateful to have such a light in my life - just a few blocks away from my front door!
Doing
Daily Affirmations
Daily gratitude is a big thing in my world. Many people choose to start or end their day with a list of gratitude. Personally, I'm a very gracious person. I find myself caught in simple moments throughout the day when I am struck by the beauty and in awe of this life. I am forever grateful for these plentiful moments.
I wanted to incorporate a kickstart in my morning. Something I do before I even get out of bed. I didn't feel I needed to amplify my already grateful mindset. So I decided to write affirmations on repeat each morning and I am quite surprised at their effectiveness. I find myself chanting them throughout the day. Each morning I tweak my prose to suit my reflections and epiphanies. I copy them about ten times and then feel energized and confident to take on whatever the day may present!
Creating
Painting a Sacred Object
My job here at Boundless is so unique and fun that I got to take all of Nicole’s watercolor classes to review for our site! While I was watching her colorful dive into the world of watercolor and art theory, I decided I may as well be a student. It just so happens that I had (not a week before) got a watercolor set so I dove right in for the first time since I was in the single digits.
Picking up the paintbrush was intimidating at first and my first few creations had my inner critic in an uproar. As I sat in these feelings of being out of my element and continued forward regardless, I soon dissolved the negative thoughts and embraced a worry free perspective. I was here to have fun and nothing else!
Her Sacred Object challenge had my inner child in a tizzy. I had just come across Tuffy, the beanie baby, at an estate sale. This was my very first B.B. as a child and I remember fondly how I would nuzzle his nose and hold him close to my heart. When I saw him again, nearly 30 years later, I was swept away to these fond memories. I now keep him at my desk as an homage to my child self.
It makes me smile, how a small trinket can hold so much sway on our emotions. One of my core values has always been to maintain the connection to my childhood enthusiasm. Tuffy (who also looks like my dog, Buckley) is that constant reminder.
